One of the simplest ways to get involved with the Faculty Association is to volunteer for one of the many internal committees of the UOITFA. These committees are established by the UOITFA Constitution and can have between 2 to 6 members. The UOITFA is seeking members to serve on the following internal committees:
- Collective Bargaining Committee
- Equity Committee
- Finance Committee
- Governance Committee
- Grievance Committee
The UOITFA also has several external committees including joint committees with the Employer as well as the need for UOITFA representatives on University Committees. Joint Committees with the Employer are often established by the Collective Agreement and have a limited number of representatives. The UOITFA is seeking members to serve on the following external committees:

Collective Bargaining Committee
The Collective Bargaining Committee does the behind-the-scenes work leading up to negotiations. This includes surveying the membership to determine our priorities, as well as finding ways to ensure the community at large is aware of our negotiations. Contact us if you would like to get involved.

Equity Committee
The FA Equity Committee is is currently working to find ways to ensure equitable practices are present both at UOIT and within the Faculty Association itself. Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for advising the FA Executive on financial matters. This includes investments of the Faculty Association, analysis of University’s budget, assistance in drafting the FA budget, etc. Contact us if you would like to get involved.

Joint Committees
Joint Committee is empowered to review matters arising from the administration, interpretation and operation of the Agreement and other matters of mutual concern. The Committee shall not be empowered to address any matter which is the subject of a current grievance under the Grievance and Arbitration provisions of this Agreement and during periods when the Parties are negotiating a renewal of the Agreement the Committee shall not address any matter which is currently being renegotiated to be part of the new Agreement. Joint Health and Safety Committees
These committees are required by the Ontario Health and Safety Act, one for each location, and they generally meet every other month. The terms of reference are available here. Contact us if you would like to get involved.

Joint Committee on Employment Equity
The Committee on Employment Equity (CEE), as set out in both Collective Agreements, endeavours “to study systemic discrimination as described above, recommend corrective action to the Employer and the Association, and monitor the progress and outcomes of initiatives taken.” Contact us if you would like to get involved.

Joint Pension & Benefits Advisory Committee
The Committee reviews the Defined Contribution Pension Plan and Benefits Plans and recommends to the University changes in these plans from time to time. The Faculty Association appoints one TF member and one TTTF member to be part of this committee. Contact us if you would like to get involved.

Office Space Working Group
The University and the Association shall establish a joint working group to examine office space for Faculty Members. The working group shall review current office space assignment and provide recommendations on the designation of office space for Faculty Members. The Parties will appoint a six (6) person working group on office space composed of three (3) appointees from each of the Employer and the Association. Contact us if you would like to get involved.

Salary Anomaly Review Committee
The Parties shall establish a bilateral committee to review salary anomalies within the Bargaining Unit. The committee shall base its review on the salaries of Tenured and Tenure-Track Faculty and Teaching Faculty Members as of July 1, 2018 and shall establish its own method of conducting the review.
